It’s hard for me to believe that Paolo Cantele finally made it to Sotto in Los Angeles without me being able to be there.

Unfortunately, his travel plans came together so quickly that I wasn’t able to make my monthly trip to Los Angeles coincide with his. But I’m so glad he got a chance to check it out.

On any given day at Sotto, where I curate the wine list, we have three of his family’s wines by the glass — mostly, the Chardonnay, the Rosato di Negroamaro, and the Salice Salentino or the new 100% Negroamaro (the purple label).

I, personally, have served the wines to some wildly famous guests (whom I can’t mention here for obvious reasons). And the wines have been great sellers: consumer-friendly, authentic, but affordable wines that everyone — from wine nerd to casual diner — can enjoy.

The Salice Salentino by Cantele is the restaurant’s number-one by-the-glass wine (since the restaurant first opened in Spring 2011).

Paolo, man, I’m sorry that I couldn’t be there to welcome you and share a glass of Negroamaro with you.

But I’m thrilled that you finally got to see what we do there and I thank you and your family for making such awesome wines. I can’t wait to hear about your trip…
