Diary of a vine: weather’s good but I could use some rain
June 23, 2012
We are experiencing a truly nice season: the sky is clear, the temperatures are warm but tolerable thanks to a light wind that’s nearly always blowing from the north. It’s been like this for more than thirty days.
Today I was listening to Cataldo and Carmine who were talking about possibly working the soil in the next few days. It hasn’t rained for a wine and they want to make sure that I don’t go into “stress” because of the prolonged drought. I’ve been trying to contain my loss of water by closing my stomata (the microscopic pores on the lower surface of my leaves) during the warmest hours of the day. I’m careful not to do it too often because the temperature of the liquid inside my tissue could “scorch” my berries.
